Logic Pro 9 Lion

I have gotten so much great info here, that I thought this would be the best place to ask my question. I am using a Mac Pro 3, 1 (early 2008). I bought the machine running Leopard, upgraded to Snow Leopard, lion, and Mountain lion with no problems. I have a valid license for logic studio eight and nine. Logic ran without problems… Until I upgraded to Mavericks. After upgrading, my computer started acting terribly. It was much slower, and I would get these terrible freezes where the screen would go kind of crazy flashing colors and stop working completely.
After thinking it was my graphics card, and not wanting to spend $1 million on a new video card, I decided to try downgrading back to Mountain lion.
First, I cleaned off the system drive, and installed mountain lion fresh from a USB drive. The crashing went away and the computer ran much faster and smoother.
However, after reinstalling logic, I am no longer able to start it. As soon as I click on the icon either through Finder or a dock menu, it crashes almost immediately. It has never gotten to or through the part where it scans the plug-ins or anything. I tried to understand the report it generates, and understand the things that it is trying to tell me, but cannot make any sense out of what it is actually saying happened. I have updated the app as well. I am currently at 9.1.8.
I don't know why this is happening, and don't know what the best next step should be. I already have everything moved out of the way if I need to do another fresh install. I was thinking to try a fresh install on a clean drive of Mavericks, and see if anything changes. Also, when I would try to change logic to start in 64-bit mode, there would be no option in the 'get info' window to select or deselect 32-bit mode. It simply wasn't there.
I can post specs/logs/error reports of course, but don't even know where to start. Does anybody have any experience with this? Does anybody have a suggestion for where to start? Do I need to get Logic X? (Logic was running fine in Mountain Lion before) I have scoured the Internet trying to find someone with similar issues, but haven't found anything that works. All I have really tried is reinstalling both the OS and the app. Everything else works great in Mountain lion. I still have my Snow Leopard disks if you think going all the way back there would be the best option. My OS is running in 64-bit mode, but when logic does try to start, it says 32-bit mode in the little start up window.
I'm totally comfortable with Terminal, Console, etc, so can provide any info if anybody thinks they may be able to direct me towards a solution.
Thanks for reading and thanks for any help or advice.

Fix for the buzzing sound that emits using Logic pro 9 on mountain lion.

  • I've recently bought a new Macbook Pro running Lion and although my initial installation of Logic 9 opened ok, after installing some third party NI plug-ins today I can't get it past the attached screen?
  • Im thinking about upgrading to Mountain Lion from Snow leopard. Right now my system is running smooth with no issues. The reason I want to upgrade is because I am planning to get Logic X but I still want to use Logic 9 because of my 32 bit plugins. So I will be using both Logic 9 and 10.

Must be my chipset then, although another Mainstage board told me otherwise. (that it was the OS)
When I upgraded my Duo2Core MBPro to Mavericks, I too lost Logic 9.
I'm pretty much done with Logic 9, and pretty happy about the new Logic X, and happy that it works on ALL of my machines.

  • I originally had this problem with Lion but a reinstall of the system cleared things up. Now since installing Mountain Lion Bridge bounces once in the dock and thats it. There is not even a recognition there was a crash.

So, I've been having a problem very like this and perhaps can offer a bit of insight. At least I found what was going south for me.
My problem looked like this: Start Bridge and there'd be a flicker of a window followed by a dialog with 'Bridge is unable to perform this action' (or words to that effect) followed by a crash.
After reading this thread I tried the previously-unknown-to-me OPTION start. That didn't fix the problem but it did eliminate the crash!
    Interesting.
Now this problem began for me when I upgraded to Mountain Lion a while ago. After that my system began to become increasingly unstable. When I bought a large SSD to be my system volume I thought it would be a good time to do a clean install of everything.
That went well, actually. Bridge worked in the new account I created! Wonderful! But I needed to use Migration Assistant to bring over my old account which had existed, more or less unchanged, since OS X 10.0! But then I began to have the same kind of instability I had seen before: Finder crashing, Path Finder crashing, and Bridge not working although the other Adobe products including Lightroom 4 worked just fine.
So I poked around and here's what I found: different Groups. In older versions of OS X the user account was a part of group Wheel. This time it was a part of group Staff. Different group numbers. Hmmm. So I started at the top level directory of Users where all the accounts live and I changed the Group, recursively, to Staff.
And then Bridge worked fine and there were no more Finder crashes, at least until I shut down for the night.
So you might want to check both ownership, group and permissions in your accounts and see if this is a part of the probem.
Why Mountain Lion (or maybe even Lion) changed the assigned Group for new accounts I cannot explain although, as I was walking the critters tonight and gazing up at the just-past-full moon, I wondered if it isn't because OS X Server can be installed as a layer over ML and this is a part of that compatibility.
Now I do think that by changing the whole tree heirarchy I may have changed invisible files that shouldn't have been modified. But for right now I'll live with that and see what happens.
Now I just have to try to get Microsoft Office 2011 to install...argh!

  • MacBook pro, will not start up- drive begins?

    OK, then try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say 'Verified' then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is 'Verified' then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Since you can boot into safe mode successfully, I'm assuming the problem may be with a bad third-party extension or plug-in (such as a driver for third-party hardware or a bad Flash plug-in, for example.) It can also be a problem with a bad cache or preference file. If the above doesn't help then use a utility like Lion Cache Cleaner 6.0.5, Cocktail, TinkerTool Sys..., or OnyX to clean out user, system, and font caches.

  • My Mac Book Pro will not start up. I ran the AHT and received the following error: 4SNS/1/40000000:Th0H-90.750. Anyone know what this means?

I have no idea how much it will cost to repair. I don't even know what the exact problem will prove to be. It may be quick if it isn't a motherboard problem. I just don't know. Take it in for a service diagnostic, then they can tell you what is involved.

  • my mac book pro will not start, i hear the fan sometimes but nothing else

What is the exact model of your Macbook Pro?

  • Mac Book Pro will not start on Battery Power although battery at 98% need to connect charger. When started date and time incorrect, comes up as 1st Jan 2012.

What is the exact model of your MBP? The date change often is an indication of power loss to the MBP, such as disconnecting the battery.
If the SMC reset does not solve the situation, post this from your MBP:
Make certain that the power adapter is connected.
    Ciao.

  • My MacBook Pro will not start. When I started it goes to a gray screen with the Apple logo and has the spinning dial. When I started in safe mode it will not start. In safe mode it as an error message that says MacBook Launch_msg(): Socket is not connected

If running 10.7 or later hold down Command-R at Startup.
    This should invoke recovery Mode.
    Choose Disk Utility.
Select your Hard drive. Inspect the SMART Status in the lower right of the window for 'Verified'.
Select the Mac OS X Volume (originally Macintosh HD) click (Repair Disk)
If errors, run again until it comes clean or gets stuck.
    Report any error messages.

  • My MacBook Pro will not start up after entering password. Circle with an X in it and 'cancel' below it is on bottom of screen. When clicking on cancel, nothing happens. This just started last night.

    Hi MJTOOTS,
Since you are getting to the login screen, it is booting past the 'gray screen' phase, so try the steps in this article, like a Safe Boot.

  • I have older Base Station Extreme and Airport Express models that need to be looked after; however, the fix to install Airport Utility 5.6 under Lion will not work under Mountain Lion. The installer complains that 'the version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported'. So...suggestions?

That is correct. AirPort Utility 5.6 for OS X Lion will NOT install under OS X Mountain Lion. If you had it already installed, and then upgraded, it would have worked just fine.
One option, is to use Pacifist to extract the utility directly from the .dmg file.

  • What gives? The AirPort Utility 5.6 wil not load on a computer running Mountain Lion. Attempted both on an iMac and Macbook.

That is correct, the 5.6 version of the AirPort Utility will not install under Mountain Lion ... but it will run on it once installed. One option is to use a utility, like Pacifist, to extract and 'install' the utility into the Utilities folder.

  • My MacBook Pro will not start up. I used it last night and it was fine. What should I do?

  • My macbook pro will not start up or turn on. Any suggestions?

I had the same issue I bought my MacBook Pro in Jan. my harddrive was bad and they had to replace it. I know the guy held down the shift botton for a little then pressed the power botton while still holding down the shift botton and it turned on but not completely since my hard drive was bad.

  • iWork Pages 09 (updated) will not start up using Lion OSX. It did work at one time but now it won't. I reinstalled iWork several times with updates but the applications say to reinstall or check the developer. I'm using an i-Mac Intel with updated downloads for all applications. Thank You in Advance for your thoughts to solving this concern.

What else have you been doing just before this problem started? Any other updates on the computer? If you need to reinstall iWork which some has when upgrading to Lion after a complete uninstall.
To uninstall correctly iWork, go to Yvans iDisk :
    <http://public.me.com/koenigyvan>
    Download :
    For_iWork:iWork '09:uninstall iWork '09.zip
Expand the archive and run the script.
Now you can instal iwork again and do the updates.

Logic Pro 9 Download

Im thinking about upgrading to Mountain Lion from Snow leopard. Right now my system is running smooth with no issues. The reason I want to upgrade is because I am planning to get Logic X but I still want to use Logic 9 because of my 32 bit plugins. So I will be using both Logic 9 and 10. I have read some really bad horror stories from people who switched to Mountain Lion and how Logic 9 hasn't been running very stable since the upgrade. Most of the stories I read were from last year and a few this year. This makes me very hesitant about upgrading to ML. My question is whether these issues still exist or has apple fixed these problems? I really need to hear from people who had issues and if these problems still occur before I upgrade to ML.
Thanks
