Since releasing his debut album “Infinite”back in 1996. Receiving no commercial success from his debut. Only selling roughly a 1,000 copies because Eminem was white. That album is truly unappreciated. The rhyme scheme on that entire album was incredibly clever. Though still trying to find his image in hip hop, Eminem would become the controversial character known as “Slim Shady.”Still being Eminem, this alias nickname shows the insane mindset of Eminem. His raps are very graphic & are when it comes to him responding to criticism he receives about his music & image. Seen publicly as a bad influence to the youth. But being conscious of his decisions, Em expresses his dreadful episodes of reality with him being cruel & showing no remorse to what he does. The list only grows on he feels & how the world responds to his music. Mostly because celebrities would hate him for name dropping them on songs in disgusting & humorous ways. So on February 23, 1999. Eminem released his second studio album “The Slim Shady LP”under Interscope Records and Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment. The album sold 283,000 copies in it’s first week in sells. It would debut at 1. on the Billboard 200 chart. Although the album would remain on the charts for 100 weeks ( 1 Year & 12 months) On April 5, 1999 it went platinum. Then the next year it would go quadruple platinum (4 million). This album by Eminem is my 2nd favorite album by him.

Track breakdown:

  • Track 1. “Public Service Announcement” The 30 second intro features the voice of Jeff Bass. One half of the Bass Brothers. Jeff Bass: “This is a public service announcement brought to you in part by Slim Shady. The views and events expressed here are totally fucked, and are not necessarily the views of anyone. However, the events and suggestions that appear on this album are not to be taken lightly. Children should not partake in the listening of this album with laces in their shoes. Slim Shady is not responsible for your actions. Upon purchasing this album, You have agreed not to try this at home.” (a-anything else?) Eminem: “Yeah. Don’t do drugs.”
  • Track 2. “My Name Is” Being one of the most known songs by Eminem comes this hilarious song “My Name Is.” This is the song that introduces who Slim Shady is. This humorous tune is one of the easiest songs you can learn from Em. Though this was responsible on how kid listeners would appeal to having bad behaviors. Especially his fans too. The catchy beat was produced by Dr. Dre & was recorded in within the hour that Eminem began to work with Dre for the first time. It took him 4 seconds to drop a line over the beat & pretty much freestyled the whole song. Footage can be found on the “Defiant One’s” documentary series.
  • Track 3. “Guilty Conscience” Feat. Dr. Dre Being the first time that Dre & Em do a track together, the two create a creative & life mattering song. The song tells about 3 people who go into their own problems & have to decide what to do. Dre plays the good side of the mind while Eminem plays the bad side.
  • Track 4. “Brain Damage” Eminem tells the real life story of how he was in middle school & how he was put into a coma by a kid named D’Angelo Bailey. This was his childhood bully. Em went into a 10 day coma & had to be learn everything again from talking, walking, eating & remembering how to do things. After “The Slim Shady LP”the person mentioned in this song tried to sue Eminem for $1 Million for fabricated & slandered stories about him.
  • Track 5. “Paul – Skit” A quick 20 second voice clip of Paul Rosenberg, who was Em’s manager at time. Paul leaves him a voice message saying he needs to tone down his “voice” indicating that he needs to get rid of his graphic content that isn’t appropriate to publish. He doesn’t want to take a chance & be in a controversial debate to whose responsible for Eminem’s actions.
  • Track 6. “If I Had” Bringing a more personal of Em. He raps about the things he wished he had a chance to do or bring back. He’s tired of how things are currently going for him. He questions: “What Is Life?”
  • Track 7. ” ’97 Bonnie & Clyde” A fictionalized song that tells how Eminem murdered his ex wife Kim. Kim cheated on Eminem while they were married & had no control over herself when it came to raising their daughter Hailie. He expresses his hate towards her in the song “Kim” on his 3rd album “The Marshall Mathers LP”which came out the next year in 2000.
  • Track 8. “Bitch” Audio of a woman calling her boyfriend after listening to Eminem. She calls him “disgusting” & it’s the worst thing she’s heard ever.
  • Track 9. “Role Model” You can be just like Em by drowning yourself. Eminem just annihilated this whole song. He called out celebrities & country stars. My god Eminem is a role model for sure. He expresses the things that influence kids to be just like him.
  • Track 10. “Lounge” A group of guys song in the distance about how their sorry for giving the girls mushrooms. This skit was interesting.
  • Track 11. “My Fault” Eminem is sorry for giving his girl mushrooms & now she’s suffering the consequences. Eminem acting like a comedian as always is exposing her by the punchlines here as he has conversation with the girl & Dave who gave him the shrooms.
  • Track 12. “Ken Kaniff” Meet Ken Kaniff. The homophobic sexual predator who calls & gets his way men. Strictly to please himself.
  • Track 13. “Cum On Everybody” Eminem developed a dance song here basically. It makes sense since he has a funky beat in the background.
  • Track 14. “Rock Bottom” One of my favorite songs off the album. Eminem expresses how much failure he’s accumulated his life span. From having no money, having no support to raise his daughter & taking over the counter pills. He feels this maybe the end for him.
  • Track 15. ” Just Don’t Give A Fuck” Clearly you already know what this song is about. Clearly Eminem doesn’t give a fuck about anything. Especially if you hate him. Maybe if you criticize him, he’ll give you an autograph. “Thanks for the support asshole!” His flow in this song is clean as hell. He lyrics perfect his attitude towards everyone that doesn’t even like him. Em doesn’t give a fuck. PERIOD.
  • Track 16. “Soap” A good ol’ fashion soap opera to start off. Interesting why Eminem would put this on his album. Hmmmm……
  • Track 17. “As The World Turns” This song man…. I laughed at some of these lines that Em out in here. Basically he talks about what things turn out bad can get worse than before. He said he lost his bike because he murdered his guinea pig & put him in a microwave. This song amused me overall, worth listening to.
  • Track 18. “I’m Shady” Showing the element of his character, Slim Shady. Eminemshows how demonic & corrupt he can be when he’s not to be trusted. Anyone who dares to battle or confront Slim will suffer the consequences. Especially death.
  • Track 19. “Bad Meets Evil” Feat. Royce da 5’9 Looking back there early days with the “Bad Meets Evil” series. Em & 5’9 formulate this hard hitting & lyrical alliance between them two just rappirapping at there best. These two are great when they come together.
  • Track 20. “Still Don’t Give A Fuck” Not only being the last song off the album, but also my favorite song hands down! The intensity is real as their is a no holds bar match up with his lyrical & dominant style of bar to bar action. The beat best is super complex & developed well.
